Artist Information

The Ukrainian Male Chorus of Edmonton was founded in 1984 and has for 25 years pursued the objective of fostering a greater appreciation of the traditions of Ukrainian choral singing. The chorus performs extensively throughout western Canada and has performed at events ranging from national anthems at Edmonton Oilers hockey games to performing for the President of Ukraine during his visit to Edmonton in 1995.

Russell Gilmour is an up-and-coming young trumpet player with a special interest in historical brass instruments, and a keen interest in the resurgence of the true natural trumpet. Now in his final year at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, Russell has performed such works as Handel's "Messiah" in Manchester Cathedral and "Let the Bright Seraphim" in Westminster Abbey.

Another graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester is British-born Jeremy Spurgeon, who has been well known to Edmontonians for almost 30 years. After continuing his studies at the Geneva Conservatoire he came to Edmonton in 1980, to take over from Hugh Bancroft the role of director of music at All Saints' Cathedral. During his career Jeremy has performed in Canada, Britain, Italy, Switzerland, and Poland.

Catherine Abele recently completed a Master of Music degree in voice performance at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music. During her time at the University of Cincinatti, Ms. Abele also taught classical art song, opera & musical theatre at the College-Conservatory of Music's Preparatory Department. Shortly after her return to Canada Ms. Abele won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (Western Canada District) and was awarded the top vocal prize at the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal Standard Life Competition.
