This special evening includes performances by Calgary’s internationally-acclaimed piano prodigy Jan Lisiecki, Edmonton cellist David Eggert, and Edmonton Polish folk dance group Polonez, accompanied by pianist Anna Domanska.

Artist information

Jan Lisiecki has been studying piano since the age of five at the Mount Royal University Conservatory, and, at age 14, he is already making a name for himself on Canadian and international stages. He had his orchestral debut when he was nine and has since performed with orchestras across Canada and internationally. At midnight on January 1, Jan opened the Year of Chopin in Żelazowa Wola, Chopin’s birthplace in Poland, marking the official beginning of the Chopin 200th birthday celebrations around the world.

David Eggert was born and raised in Sherwood Park, and he began studying cello at the age of five. Equally comfortable solo, as a chamber musician, or with an orchestra, his cello-playing has taken him around the world. Eggert toured Canada as the grand-prize winner of the Eckhardt-Gramatté Competition in 2006 and went on to play as a soloist in Croatia and Slovenia as the winner of the 2008 International Cello Competition Antonio Janigro in Zagreb. In Spring 2010, he’ll tour Switzerland, Austria and France.
