Artist Info

After many years of touring and performing as a solo singer/songwriter, Steve Bell decided to take the plunge and tour with a band. As an artist with a unique and passionate musical vision, he wanted to do all he could to gather a group of musicians whose gifts would coalesce into an extraordinary musical experience – one that would serve both the songs and the audience well.

For his initial foray as a touring bandleader, Bell called upon Hugh and Fergus Marsh (on violin and Chapman Stick), former band-mates of Canadian musical legend Bruce Cockburn, and Winnipeg session drummer Greg Black. Steve says, “When we gathered in Toronto for our first rehearsals, I really wanted to look like a cool professional in front of these guys. But when they started to play my songs, I was so blown away by what they were doing that I had to turn my head away so they couldn’t see me crying”.

That tour was a resounding success, producing a series of wonderfully unique concerts, a live album (Steve Bell Band – Live In Concert; 1999) and concert DVD (Steve Bell Band In Concert; 1999), and setting the bar high for future Steve Bell Band concert experiences.

The bar remains high. Subsequent tours have seen Steve work with multi-award winning acoustic bassist Gilles Fournier and drummer Daniel Roy, as well as his now long-standing sideman and musical collaborator, pianist Mike Janzen. Mike is an accomplished pianist in many musical genres, leading his own jazz trio through an award winning debut album Beginnings, and on into his sophomore release, Mombacho.  As it turns out, Mike is also a brilliant arranger and the singular talent behind the much-praised orchestral arrangements for Steve’s Symphony Sessions album, and both his Symphony Sessions and Feast of Seasons orchestra concerts.

Steve’s vision for uniting exceptional artists around great music continues. His latest tour (Devotion) had him on stage joined by pianist Mike Janzen, multi-instrumentalist and award winning producer Roy Salmond and well-known worship musician Jon Buller.

A Steve Bell Band concert is a not-to-be-missed adventure, full of artful creativity, musical camaraderie, and joyful surprises.

0 # Sue Siemens 2011-03-10 18:53 I look forward to attending another Steve Bell concert. His music and stories are always inspiring. At the end of the concert we always leave with a smile on our faces and with a "feel good" feeling. Steve Bell is not only a creative music artist and a great story teller, but is truly touched by God's light to instill peace in others. Reply | Reply with quote | Quote
