The University of Alberta presents the Festival of Ideas 2012: Nobel Night with Thomas Sargent - "Shifting Tectonic Plates - Rules of the Game Changes in Economies".

Winner of the 2011 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science and one of the founders of the rational expectations model and the freshwater economics movement, Thomas J. Sargent will talk about what’s behind the rational expectations model, demonstrating that government economic policies rarely have their intended effect because consumers and investors adjust their behaviors whenever the government shifts policies. It’s an insight that has revolutionized economics and it continues to dominate economic thinking today.
