Edmonton’s own Dr. Leonard Ratzlaff conducts Pro Coro’s final subscription concert this season, with guests the U of A’s Madrigal Singers and a selected orchestral ensemble. The program repertoire includes Scarlatti’s soaring masterpiece Stabat Mater and Caldara’s Crucifixus (both with continuo), three a cappella pieces by Bruckner, Enns, and Nystedt, and features works by the Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds—one of which is an ethereal and inspiring a cappella arrangement of the classic hymn “Amazing Grace” (with soprano solo).

I attended the "Showcase" on Sunday Jan. 22, and the sound of patrons uncapping, slurping, and making their plastic bottles "crack" disturbed my enjoyment of the program. Are drinks allowed during performances?

Thank you for your message. Food and drink are not permitted in the concert chamber, and signage is posted at each entrance to the chamber to this effect. Of course, occasionally some patrons choose to ignore this instruction, which is unfortunate given the brilliant acoustics of the Winspear Centre.
I hope your next experience at the Winspear Centre is better.
Thank you,
