Anu Komsi

Anu Komsi continues to be praised for her versatile musicianship and her dynamic coloratura voice. Equally at home on both opera and concert stages, Ms. Komsi has appeared regularly all over Europe and in the United States. She is a versatile recitalist and chamber musician with a repertoire ranging from Renaissance to contemporary music. She has performed a wide opera repertoire in leading opera houses. Composers like Benjamin, Saariaho, Salonen, Teinsuu, Harvey, Dillon, Hakola, and Hofmann are among the composers that have written music for Ms. Komsi's voice.

After her debut at the Salzburg Festival in the summer of 2011, Anu Komsi was hailed in the press as, "the excellent anti-opera heroine." The production of Stockhausen's Donnerstag from Licht in Basel in spring 2016, for which she sang Eva, was chosen by the prestigious magazine Opernwelt as "Production of the Year." In May 2018, she sings the same character in a concert performance in Hamburg. Anu Komsi has been the soloist with numerous major orchestras. Her most acclaimed repertoire in recent years includes Sibelius' Luonnotar, Saariaho's Leino Songs, Tiensuu's Voice Verser, Salonen's Wing on Wing (with her sister Piia Komsi), Lindberg's Accused, Holliger's Morgenstern Lieder, amd Mahler Symphonies 2, 8, and 4. For many years, Ms. Komsi was director of the opera festival Kokkola. In the summer of 2017, this successful collaboration found its concluding highlight in the widely-acclaimed produciton of Meyerbeer's L'étoile du nord, in which she sang the leading role.

This is Ms. Komsi’s debut with the ESO.
