narrator

Born in 1961 to a military family in Atlantic Canada, Fr. Gerasim spent his early life being posted across the country - first to Ontario in 1961, then to British Columbia in 1967. The family settled in Delta, B.C. (Ladner) where Fr. Gerasim went to school until graduation from Delta Secondary in 1979. He went for priestly studies immediately after high school starting off in B.C. and ending up in Ottawa.

He graduated in 1986, having earned a BA, BTh and MDiv from St. Paul University and the University of Ottawa. He was ordained a priest in 1986 and has served the Church ever since, being posted all over B.C.

He moved to Alberta in 2010, at first to Calgary and then to Smoky Lake, where he leads eight rural parishes in the region. Fr. Gerasim became a monk in 2011 and was named Abbot of St. Elias Hermitage, Smoky Lake County in 2014. He was granted the distinction and title of Archimandrite (Archabbot) in 2016. Having a lifelong interest in music, he has sung in many choral groups and church choirs through the years and is known for his abilities in elocution. While being a busy parish priest, he is also Dean of Albert for the Orthodox Church in America. Father Gerasim is also a volunteer fire fighter and fire chaplain with the Smoky Lake Fire Department, as well a member of the Federation of Fire Chaplains (international) and the newly formed Alberta Association of Fire Chaplains.
