Dave Clarke is an Edmonton-based actor, musician and writer. Dave is delighted to be sharing the stage with the ESO again; older ESO audiences may remember him in long red underwear performing in orchestral versions of Roald Dahl’s Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Snow White (Dandi Productions).
Other acting roles include Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Theatre Calgary), Feste in Twelfth Night (University of Alberta), and Narrator of The Christmas Carol Project (Carol Project). As musician, composer, and sound designer, Dave has worked on over 300 theatre shows, films, radio, television, dance, and multimedia. Recent shows include The Comedy Company (Shadow Theatre), Middletown (University of Alberta), Élise Contre l’Extinction Totale (L’UniThéâtre), CTRL-ALT-DEL (Concrete Theatre), and The Tempest (Citadel Theatre). You might have seen and heard his work in CBC Radio’s The Irrelevant Show.
As a writer, Dave’s workplace safety play That’s Danger! just completed a remarkable decade of touring junior high schools throughout Alberta for the Alberta Workers’ Health Centre. Dave’s family musical Songs My Mother Never Sung Me (Concrete Theatre) is about a deaf Mom raising a hearing Son, and it is based on Dave’s experiences growing up with deaf parents. It is performed in sung English and American Sign Language, premiered in Edmonton in February 2019 and received three Sterling Awards, including Outstanding Score of a Play or Musical. Look out for it in Edmonton as it begins a Canadian Tour in February 2021.
