i Coristi

choir

The name i Coristi is Italian, meaning “The Choral Singers.” Noted for its distinctive, eclectic programming, the choir focuses on a cappella masterpieces from the Renaissance to the 21st century, presented in three main concerts each season; the choir also performs outreach concerts at seniors’ facilities and various local businesses and gatherings.

i Coristi regularly participates in innovative collaborations with other artists and ensembles, including through its biennial Competition in Choral Composition, which encourages the composition and performance of new Canadian choral music. Last year, the ensemble presented the first-ever collaboration between a Western choir and the sarangi, a beautiful traditional bowed instrument of India, in its inaugural “Meeting Places” concert; the second installment of that concert series this year will see the choir joining forces with a physicist in producing an evening all about the music and science of space.

i Coristi has been heard on national and regional broadcasts of CBC Radio. They have performed with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, have toured to Ontario, Manitoba, England, and Wales, and have regularly been invited to perform in Toronto, Winnipeg, and Edmonton at Podium, the national biennial conference of Choral Canada/Canada Choral. The choir has recorded four CDs, including Paths, released in 2016. Founded by Dr. Debra Cairns, the choir is currently led by Artistic Director Dr. Rob Curtis.
