Jacob Kryger has been playing percussion since the age of eight. Now 20, he has been studying with Brian Jones, Principal Percussion of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, for the past nine years. Jacob is entering his final year at the University of Alberta in the Bachelor of Music program with a Major in Percussion Performance where he continues to study with Mr. Jones. He plans on continuing his music education in a master’s program next year.
Mr. Kryger has been an extra percussionist for the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra since 2017 and performs regularly with many other ensembles including the University of Alberta Symphony Orchestra, University of Alberta Symphonic Winds Ensemble, and the Edmonton Youth Orchestra, as well as various chamber music groups. Outside of these ensembles, he also performs frequently in solo settings. Jacob has taken part in several summer music festivals including the TorQ Percussion Seminar (2018, 2019) and the Leigh Howard Stevens Summer Marimba Seminar (2019). He has had lessons with and performed in masterclasses for many notable percussionists including Brian Jones, Leigh Howard Stevens, Russel Hartenburger, Vern Griffiths, Josh Jones and the TorQ Percussion Quartet.
