Richard Caldwell has been a member of the ESO since 1973. He holds both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Violin Performance from Western Michigan University. He has appeared with many performing arts organizations in and around Edmonton including The Edmonton Chamber Players Orchestra and the Arden Ensemble. In 1982 he established and conducted the Nova Musica Society which is a local amateur symphony orchestra. Mr. Caldwell was Concertmaster and one of the founders of ECHO, the Edmonton Chamber Orchestra.
Along with his wife, ESO cellist Gillian, Richard Caldwell formed the Rococo String Quartet in 1978, making it the longest standing freelance classical group in Edmonton. He is also the founder and Music Director of TEMPO, The Edmonton Medical Professions Orchestra, an Edmonton community string orchestra whose members are primarily medical professionals. TEMPO is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2009. In his spare time, Richard enjoys travel, golf, and 10 pin bowling.
