An Important Milestone for the Winspear Expansion
The expanded Winspear is taking shape as a vibrant, inclusive music centre for everyone.
The 50,000 square foot addition off the existing Winspear Centre will include new studio spaces and community gathering areas that invite the public in to explore and engage with music. At its heart will be the Music Box – a mid-sized performance venue built with to the same extraordinary acoustic standards as the existing Winspear Centre symphony hall.
Together, these new spaces will increase accessibility to music, strengthen partnerships between arts and education, and create more opportunities for Edmontonians to fulfil the human need to make and share music.
Construction Funding is Now in Place
We have received confirmation from City Council that the Winspear Expansion has been included in the Community Revitalization Levy (CRL) and we now have the resources needed to complete construction and finish the building’s interior. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the citizens of Edmonton, our donors, and our community champions who lent their voices and helped us achieve this remarkable goal.
Already, the positive impact of this project is being felt. The exterior of the Winspear Expansion is complete, and several classroom and studio spaces are already filled with music, learning, and community activity, made possible by early support.
- Interior construction is expected to begin Spring 2026
- Approximately 18 months of construction is anticipated
- Project completion is expected before the end of 2027

The Next Step: Bringing a Dream to Life
With construction funding secured, we are shifting our focus to support a grand opening and long-term success. This next chapter is not about building walls, but rather about ensuring we are fully prepared to bring this dream to life.
To do that, we will need your support. As the Winspear begins to transform from a concert hall and into a community centre for music, philanthropic investment remains essential. The next year and a half is not only about finishing the building. It is about being ready to open strongly and succeed for the long term.
That means building the capacity, expertise, systems, programming, and endowment needed to operate more spaces, deepen partnerships, and serve more people.
