Violin

Canadian violinist Christine Yu began her violin studies at the age of six with Eugene Kash. She continued her formative studies with Gerard Kantarjian and Yaakov Geringas. While attending McGill University (Montreal) for her Bachelor’s of Music in Violin Performance, she studied with Richard Roberts, principal concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, was concertmaster of the McGill Symphony Orchestra, and worked with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under Charles Dutoit.

A recipient of the Kapnick Scholarship Foundation and the NU School of Music Eckstein Scholarship, she graduated from Northwestern University (Chicago) with a Master’s Degree of Music in Violin Performance. During her time in Chicago, she was a principal member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago under Daniel Barenboim and performed at Carnegie Hall under his direction.

In 2005 she was appointed to the violin section of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra under Kees Bakels. At the end of 2013 she left her position in the MPO and has since returned to Canada where she is currently based in Edmonton and performs regularly in the city's vibrant musical community.

Whether the goal is performance or personal enrichment, my aim is to create an inspiring environment where students can thrive and find joy in their musical journey. 
 

Lesson Description: 

Christine offers private violin lessons in-person or online. She teaches from ages 5 to adult, and all levels of classical violin from Suzuki/RCM Prep to ARCT.
