Viktoria Grynenko
Violin
Viktoria Grynenko is a Ukrainian-born multifaceted violinist, educator, and researcher based in Edmonton, Canada. Since 2011 Viktoria has been residing in Canada and has completed her BMus (University of Manitoba), MMus (University of Ottawa), and DMus (University of Alberta) in Violin Performance. Her dedication to violin craft and academics has been encouraged by Kun Foundation, Strauss Foundation, and Canadian Federation of University Woman to name a few. At the University of Alberta, studying with Guillaume Tardif, Grynenko’s research explored the ‘metaphoric intersectionality’ between violin and dance gestures, and rarely performed Eastern European repertoire. In 2023 Viktoria published her debut album “Violin in Movement” which had premiere recordings of violin arrangements of music for ballet. In 2025 Dr. Grynenko published her second full-length album "Unbroken: Music from Ukraine".
Grynenko appeared as a soloist with the Oslo Symphony Orchestra and Glier Symphony Orchestra, and as a concertmaster for the University of Alberta Orchestra. She performed as a soloist, chamber and orchestra musician throughout Canada, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Ukraine. Additionally, Viktoria enjoys organizing concerts in collaboration with ballet dancers and to explore rare violin repertoire related to ballet.
Grynenko’s interest in new music encouraged her to commission and premiere pieces by such composers as Henry J. Ng, Valentin Bibik, Zach Bales, Jennifer Bachynsky, Jerry Semchyshyn, Mika Pelo, Maxim Shalygin, and others.
Passionate about education, Dr. Grynenko leads numerous masterclasses for violin and chamber music students through community organizations and higher education institutions and can be regularly seen adjudicating regional and international festivals.
Besides her musical accomplishments, Grynenko has also presented at international conferences on the topics of violin literature.

Viktoria has a remarkable ability to explain complex musical concepts in a clear and accessible way. She always ensures I feel confident with new techniques before progressing further. Her encouraging and supportive approach has been invaluable in keeping me motivated and passionate about learning.
I've found her to be very attentive and patient, and her expertise is evident in her ability to pinpoint specific areas for me to focus on. Thanks to her teaching methods, I successfully passed my Level 5 RCM exams in violin, which helped me achieve my musical goals and grow as a musician.
I'm looking forward to continuing my musical journey with Viktoria and aim to achieve my Level 8 RCM exam this upcoming year with her support and guidance. I wholeheartedly recommend Viktoria to anyone interested in learning music.”

Under her guidance, Alice has grown tremendously in both skill and confidence and has developed a lasting love for the violin. Viktoria’s support and teaching have helped Alice perform on stage, prepare for RCM Level 8, and become actively involved in her school and community music programs.

“My daughter Talia started violin lessons in October 2023 with Miss Viktoria Grynenko. Talia was five and a half years old. We interviewed two other teachers and knew when we met Viktoria that she was the right teacher for our family. And now almost 2 years later, we couldn't be more grateful with our choice. Our experience (mine and my daughter) has been rewarding and enjoyable. Viktoria is very calm and methodical in her teaching. She started Talia on the Suzuki book and after a year and a half, started to teach Talia how to read notes. She is not only a great violinist, but also a great educator. My daughter is reserved, and Viktoria's teaching style is a great fit. She is soft-spoken, patient and explains how one learns to both parent and child. Viktoria also knows how to be direct and clear, and set expectations. She exposed Talia to a recital 2 months after she started, then two each school year. This has provided my daughter a great opportunity to grow her confidence and pride in herself. This year, as Talia was going to be away for the end of year recital, Viktoria offered Talia the opportunity to play at another recital. My 7-year-old was able to play on a big stage, without her teacher, with a new-to-her piano accompanist and she did so marvelously. In Talia's words, 'Miss Viktoria is beautiful, nice and special'. thank you”
