Otto Tausk

Conductor

Otto Tausk is Music Director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Advisor of the VSO School of Music. His extraordinary artistic leadership has enhanced the orchestra’s reach and become an essential part of Vancouver’s cultural identity.

Tausk works with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Residentie Orchestra, the Orchestre national de Belgique, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, with whom he made his BBC Proms debut. In 2024–2025, he conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and works with soloists, including Lang Lang, Behzod Abduraimov, Leila Josefowicz, Bruce Liu, and Vadim Gluzman. 

As Chief Conductor of the Frankurt Radio Symphony and Theater St. Gallen (2012–2018), Tausk led numerous productions, including the world premiere of David Philip Hefti’s Annas Maske and the Swiss premiere of George Benjamin’s Written on Skin. A long-time collaborator of Michel van der Aa, Tausk conducted the acclaimed world premiere of Upload. In 2023–2024, he conducted the Dutch premiere of Thomas Adès’s Powder Her Face

Otto Tausk studied with Jonas Aleksa and, in 2011, received the prestigious De Olifant prize for his contributions to the arts in the Netherlands.
