Hailing from St. John's, Newfoundland, Chad Murphy developed his musical foundation while immersed in the city's vibrant and demanding arts community. While studying at the Memorial University School of Music, he concurrently gained extensive practical experience performing with prominent East Coast artists, including Mallory Johnson, Brothers In Stereo, Chris Kirby and The Marquee, and Mick Davis & Thin Love. By actively engaging with diverse genres—ranging from R&B to hard rock—Chad established a reputation as a highly adaptable sideman and Musical Director capable of executing complex musical roles with precision and confidence.

Relocating to Ontario in 2016, Chad rapidly secured his position within the industry as an in-demand band leader and guitarist. His commitment to continuous musical growth has led to extensive touring across North America and internationally, supporting acclaimed artists such as Kelly Prescott, Meghan Patrick, Alan Doyle, Colin James, Terri Clark, and Kyle Cook. In 2020, his contributions were recognized with a nomination for CCMA Guitar Player of the Year. Chad subsequently joined Dallas Smith's touring band, most recently completing the expansive 52-date cross-Canada "Dallas Smith Unplugged" tour in the fall of 2025.

Now based in Edmonton, Alberta, Chad's career continues to evolve. He currently performs with the Juno-nominated ensemble Secondhand Dream Car. In addition to his rigorous performance and touring schedule, Chad operates a successful online music instruction studio. Leveraging over 20 years of professional experience, he is dedicated to mentoring students, helping them discover their unique artistic voices while sharing the comprehensive knowledge acquired throughout his extensive career.
