A "rapidly rising star in the Canadian choral scene” (Anacrusis), Chronos Vocal Ensemble was founded in 2013 by Jordan Van Biert, and since its inception has built a reputation for innovation and excellence. Through a process of collaborative learning and careful preparation, the choir delivers an exceptional choral music experience that elevates the spirit and connects a community of music lovers in Edmonton and beyond.
As the choir’s accomplished performers find fulfilment in applying their skills to create transcendent experiences for audiences, Chronos aims to build a community of singers, audience members, and other contributors who are passionate about experiencing, and supporting high-calibre, compelling choral music.
Over six seasons, the ensemble has delighted audiences across Canada and performed at distinguished events including Music Conference Alberta and two appearances at Choral Canada's national Podium conference. Collaborators have included the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Alberta Baroque Ensemble, and Calgary’s Spiritus Chamber Choir. In 2015, Chronos Vocal Ensemble was awarded the Healey Willan Grand Prize in the National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs, and in 2019 earned an honorable mention (western region) in the same competition. In 2016 the choir earned a Performance Award from the City of Edmonton’s Salute to Excellence for bringing recognition to the city. Chronos Vocal Ensemble has released three recordings, two of which are devoted to new Canadian repertoire. Its 2018 release, Fresh: New Music From Canada, features new unaccompanied works from 12 Canadian composers. The choir makes theirU.S. debut in March, performing a Canadian choral program for the American Choral Directors' Association in Spokane, WA.
