Born and raised in Montréal, Barry Nemish pursued his musical education at McGill University. During the course of his studies he was selected to perform with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada as well as the Jeunesses Musicales World Youth Orchestra where he had the opportunity to play under Leonard Bernstein, Jean Martinon and Michael Tilson Thomas.

Mr. Nemish's professional experience includes performances with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, McGill Chamber Orchestra, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, the Alberta Baroque Ensemble and the Montréal Symphony Orchestra. Barry Nemish has been Principal Timpanist with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra since 1974. He last appeared as a soloist with the ESO in a performance of Werner Thärichen's Timpani Concerto in February, 2004. He was also featured in Bartók’s Concerto for Two Pianos and Percussion in 1993. Mr. Nemish is married, and has three children.
