I’d like to share what it’s like to visit YONA. As you enter the YONA classroom at St. Catherine School, the newest of our six YONA sites, you feel the energy in the air: twenty YONA students excitedly sharing stories with one another while eating their nutritious snacks. The students are excited to see a new face in their classroom and to share their love of YONA. One of those students is Banna, a grade two student who joined YONA in October.
Banna loves YONA because she gets to make new friends, get help with her homework, and learn to play the violin. She says that YONA makes her happy because it is a safe and fun place where she can be herself. Banna has been practicing hard on her violin, and she can play Hot Cross Buns (her favourite song) beautifully. You can see how much it means for Banna to have a community around her that supports her and makes her excited about what she can do now and as she grows up.
Banna and her friends need your help to keep growing and creating music together.
YONA is more than an after-school program, it’s a community: it’s your community, and it needs your help.
Our YONA family has needed us more than ever these past few years, and together, we stepped up. Because of you, we welcomed 99 new students this year; even then, we couldn’t accept every student that applied. You helped us expand into a new site at St. Catherine school. Thanks to you, we delivered fresh food and supplies to YONA families and purchased HEPA filters for each of our classrooms. Together, we supported YONA students like Banna and their families through difficult times. Thank you. When you give to YONA, you show us that you believe in the life-changing power of music.
Will you make a gift today to support Banna and her friends at YONA?
Banna’s favourite thing about YONA is being able to spend time with her friends and learn new things with them. She proudly shows off her violin and says how much it means to her that she gets to play such a beautiful new instrument. When her friend was struggling with a new song, she helped them learn which strings to play. Banna is a kind, caring, and intelligent student, and YONA has made a huge difference in her life. YONA has helped her make new friends, take on new responsibilities, and become more confident in her abilities. When you donate to YONA, you are helping students like Banna grow: you are supporting the next generation of leaders in our community.
An anonymous YONA supporter will match each new and increased monthly pledge with an additional gift of $1,000.
Join us and donate to YONA: together, we are making a difference.
