If I had to describe YONA in one word, it would be: belong. YONA is more than just a music program—it’s a place where kids feel safe, make friends, and grow. I know, because it’s been this place for me.
My name is May-Bell, and I’m in grade 10. I’ve been playing the viola at YONA for nine years, and it has changed my life. Because of people like you, I have had the opportunity to learn music, meet amazing teachers, and feel like I’ve been a part of something special.
Now, YONA needs your help to grow. More kids want to join, but there isn’t enough space. YONA is working with the Edmonton Public School Board to open a new site next year, but we need your support to make that happen.
When I first joined YONA, I struggled to connect with my peers—but YONA was a bridge that helped me find that connection. It wasn’t just about learning music—it was about finding a community. Even now, as I’ve gotten older, I still feel that support. Whether I’m talking with a teacher about school or laughing with friends about Star Wars, I know I belong.

YONA has taught me so much. Learning viola was tough at first, and I wanted to quit. But a teacher told me, "When you're lost, just keep going." That advice stuck with me—not just in music, but in life. Now, as I manage high school challenges, I remember to keep pushing forward.
When you give to YONA, you're giving more than music lessons. You're giving kids confidence, friendship, and a place to belong — just like I found. And right now, your gift can go even further. If you're one of the first 25 people to start or increase a monthly donation before June 30, Glen and Brenda Kemp will give an additional $1,000 to YONA!
Please consider giving today, so next year more kids can find their place at YONA, just like I did.
