Conducted by ESO Chief Conductor Alexander Prior, two works from Russian late-romanticists are featured in contrast with a work by a contemporary American composer. One of Shostakovich’s most powerful symphonies is paired with Rachmaninoff’s brilliant final concerto, featuring Russian-born Israeli pianist Boris Giltburg. This concert’s third work is Missy Mazzoli’s River Rouge Transfiguration, a work for orchestra which finds inspiration in the American grit and industry that forged a nation.
