Zeitouni Conducts Dvořák & Prokofiev
ESO Classics Season Opening Celebration

Zeitouni Conducts Dvořák & Prokofiev

Conducted by Jean-Marie Zeitouni
September 27 & 28, 2025 7:30 PM / 2:00 PM

About The Concert

Jean-Marie Zeitouni makes his debut as Music Director with a program that celebrates community, musical excellence, family, and the future. Edmonton’s own Jacques Forestier, who busked at the downtown farmer’s market when he was a child and has since won prestigious prizes, performs Dvořák’s folkloric Violin Concerto.

Every section of the orchestra will shine in Prokofiev’s mighty Symphony No. 5, showcasing the orchestra’s musicianship and artistry.

Of his new work Avé, Edmonton composer and friend of the ESO John Estacio writes, “my mother passed away of dementia while I was working on this piece,” and describes it as “a celebration of a full life devoted to nurturing a family, replete with joy, celebration, sorrow, devotion, and a sense of fulfilment.”

This concert will include an intermission.

Prelude

Patrons of this event are invited to attend a prelude presentation before this concert on Saturday, September 27, starting at 6:45 PM and Sunday, September 28, starting at 1:15 PM in the Upper Circle Lobby (3rd Floor). This talk by Natalie Boisvert is a fantastic way to learn more about the pieces being performed in your concert.

AFTERTHOUGHTS

Following Saturday’s performance, patrons are invited to stay in the lobby for a special Afterthoughts discussion featuring Jean-Marie Zeitouni and Jacques Forestier in conversation with ESO Concertmaster Robert Uchida. The bars will remain open to continue the celebration of Jean-Marie’s debut concert as ESO Music Director.
