Bob Bernhardt celebrates the musicians and audience he has grown to love since his debut here in 2006. In addition to glittering and familiar classical showpieces (The Flight of the Bumble Bee, Sabre Dance), you’ll hear members of the orchestra play featured solos (Bach’s Arioso, Sarasate’s Gypsy Airs), plus many of Bob’s personal favourites.

Beethoven's Eroica Symphony

Beethoven’s groundbreaking Third Symphony, nicknamed “Eroica” for its heroic qualities, was originally dedicated to Napoleon, but his name was later removed in a fury of rage. In his ESO debut, Canadian pianist Sheng Cai will perform Khachaturian’s mesmerizing Piano Concerto. A beloved Chorale by Bach and a Passacaglia based on its theme by Canadian composer Oskar Morawetz round out the program.

Experience Pacho Flores’ impressive trumpet skills as he makes his ESO debut performing a dynamic new trumpet concerto written especially for him in 2018 by Arturo Márquez, Mexico’s most celebrated living composer. In addition, you’ll hear Carlos Chávez’s popular Sinfonía india in its first Edmonton Symphony performance. Completed in 1936, it uses three melodies originating from native-American tribes of northern Mexico.

Pacho Flores brings his incredible trumpet skills to the Winspear Centre as he makes his ESO debut performing a dynamic new trumpet concerto written especially for him in 2018 by Arturo Márquez, Mexico’s most celebrated living composer. Two memorable Mexican orchestral showpieces - Huapango by José Pablo Moncayo and Sinfonía india by Carlos Chávez – complement the concerto.
