Laura Veeze & Robert Uchida

Behind the Music:

"We chose these pieces just because they’re pretty, uplifting and they so clearly express love and intimacy."
- Laura Veeze

Their Love Story:

"We met 16 years ago in New York City, when we ended up playing string quartet with two mutual friends. So we’ve played together from the minute we first met."

Laura: “I immediately was smitten by how Robert loves the music he plays, it was so inspiring and fun, and very attractive.”

Kathryn Macintosh & Scott Whetham

Behind the Music:

"I love the Satie - it's an enchanting waltz that epitomizes the Belle Epoque and reminds me of Paris! In the arrangement, we take turns with the melody, and I think it's fun for the tuba to have that smooth and romantic musical role."
- Kathryn Macintosh

Their Love Story:

"Scott and I met in the ESO - workplace romance!"
- Kathryn Macintosh

Meran Currie-Roberts & Rafael Hoekman

Behind the Music:

"We have loved these tunes for a long time. Meran played a cello quartet version of “The Man I Love” a few years back without me. The song inspired a film made in 1947 by the same name. The song is prominently featured in the film.

“Our Love is Here to Stay” was the last composition of George Gershwin before he died in 1937. The lyrics were written and added by his brother Ira as a tribute. We have listened to these tunes sung by Ella Fitzgerald many times during a candlelit dinner. Something we can still do during Covid times...."
- Rafael Hoekman

Their Love Story:

"Meran and I were both "apprentice cellists" at the Brott Festival (National Academy Orchestra) in the fall of 1999. One thing led to another...

Our first official date was at a restaurant called Kalendar in Toronto's little Italy. We spent a memorable New Year's Eve on Y2K in Montreal soon after getting together.

Our first few months were long distance with Meran in Toronto and me in Montreal. We really had no money...one particular week, Meran was broke in Toronto but had started a temp job at a property management firm. In Montreal, I went busking in the subway in the morning and deposited 20 bucks in cash in her account so she could buy herself lunch that day. We've come a long way since then."

Julie Hereish & Keith Hamm

Behind the Music:

"They are beautiful love songs that we are allowed to record!"
- Julie Hereish

Their Love Story:

"We really got to know each other at Music by the Sea, a music festival in Bamfield, BC. There, we got to go on walks in the rainforest or by the ocean and play music together."
- Julie Hereish
