Adopt a Player Program

Adopt a Player Program

Edmonton, AB – On Sunday April 30th, students from nine Edmonton elementary schools will take to the Winspear Centre stage to perform their original compositions, created through the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra’s Adopt-A-Player Program, now in its 20th year.

This annual Sharing Concert is the culmination of three months of collaboration between an “adopted” ESO player, music teachers, and grade 4-6 students. Over time, students and mentors explore the joys of creating and performing their own musical work. Participation in the program is free of charge, and encourages interdisciplinary learning, skill development, and creativity. “Each school was selected in January and classes have been hard at work to compose their own original compositions. Through teamwork, cooperation, discussion, sharing and trial and error, a creative piece emerges,” added Director of Musical Creativity Alison Kenny-Gardhouse.

This year's schools include:
Belgravia School
Caernarvon School
St. Lucy Elementary School
Malcolm Tweddle School
Progressive Academy
École Rio Terrace Schule School
École Bishop Savaryn School
Bannerman School
St. Basil Elementary/ Junior High School

We invite all media to document this event. An opportunity to conduct interviews with program participants will be available after the concert.
Please RSVP to Konstantine Kurelias by Thursday, April 27.
