Meet June Kim, the newest addition to the ESO. June, an oboe player, loves K-pop, history, architecture, art, and good food. She cheers for the Ohio State Buckeyes and does paper cutting art in her free time. Welcome to the ESO, June!

When was your earliest recital and what did you play?
I had a joint recital with my classmate in junior year of undergrad. I played the Dutilleux oboe sonata, two of the six Silvestrini etudes, and Harbison wind quintet with my group.

How long have you been with the ESO?
I started on March 31st!

How many instruments do you know how to play?
Three -- oboe, piano, and a little bit of clarinet.

What is your musical guilty pleasure?
K-pop.

What is the last album you purchased (digital or physical)?
François Leleux’s Works for Oboe CD.

What was the last song/piece of music you listened to?
"My Favorite Things" by Julie Andrews.

What would your DJ name be?
DJK

Who would be your partner on the Amazing Race?
My sister.

What would your personalized license plate be if you had to have one?
REEDING.

What is your pre-concert ritual?
I like to practice all the solos and difficult passages, make final adjustments to a few reeds, eat a light meal, then get to the concert hall early to test and pick out my concert reeds on stage.

What's something people might not know about you?
I took some interesting humanities classes during my undergrad like American Sign Language and introductory Mbira ensemble.

What is your favourite sports team or player?
Ohio State Buckeyes.

How many different cities have you lived in?
Seven – Columbus, Seoul, Calgary, Rochester, Houston, Halifax, and Toronto.

What is your favourite city (or a country) you’ve travelled and why?
Rome – I loved the history, architecture, art, and the food there.

Do you have a nickname?
Junebao – bao is bun in Chinese.

What is your favourite orchestra other than the ESO?
Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

What do you do in your free time?
Paper cutting art. Hopefully it’ll improve my reed making knife technique!

What food would be on your rider as a rock star?
Chocolate-covered pretzels.
