Chantel Leung

Double Bass

Growing up in Toronto, Chantel began playing the bass at the age of 10. She was self taught until she continued her studies at the University of Toronto, earning a Bachelor of Music. Chantel also holds a diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Master's from Michigan State University. She is grateful to have studied under many extraordinary teachers, particularly, Kevin Brown, Scott Dixon, Kristen Bruya, and Edward Tait.

Prior to joining the Edmonton Symphony, she was the Principal Bassist of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she has also performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Opera Company, Windsor Symphony, Flint Symphony, and Ann Arbor Symphony.

Chantel enjoys spending her summers at music festivals both in Canada and abroad, and is a proud alumna of the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, Wabass Institute, National Repertory Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra of Canada, American Institute of Musical Studies in Austria, Domaine Forget, and Orford Music Academy.

When she is not practicing, Chantel enjoys doing 26&2 yoga, jigsaw puzzles, and searching for the best coffee shop in Edmonton.
