Chris Jones
Assistant Principal
Double Bass
Prior to joining the ESO in 2023, Chris spent five seasons as the Principal Bassist of the Regina Symphony Orchestra and the Regina Symphony Chamber Players. Chris has performed with numerous ensembles across Canada including the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, and the Brandon Chamber Players.
Originally from Mississauga, Ontario, Chris completed his undergraduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. He was a three-time recipient of the Theodore H. Barth Foundation Scholarship and graduated with the Homer Mensch Award for Outstanding Double Bass Performance. During his studies, Chris also had the privilege of partaking in tours across Canada and Europe with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and spent several formative summers at Domaine Forget and Orford Music academies.
Chris has appeared as a soloist at the Regina Musical Club, the Free Concert Series at the Regina Public Library, and most notably performed the Canadian premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s concerto for double bass Dark with Excessive Bright with the Regina Symphony Orchestra in 2019. Chris thoroughly enjoyed his role as the Bass Instructor at the University of Regina, and is honoured to have been a part of the musical journeys of the younger generation. In his spare time, Chris enjoys biking around Edmonton, browsing facebook marketplace, trying all matcha lattes that cross his path, and dabbling in electric bass and other genres of music including Jazz, Funk, and Bluegrass.
