Hymn

Curated by Friends and Colleagues
Friday, January 27, 2023 7:30 PM

When our dear friend Alex Prior had to step back from conducting the original program planned for this date due to an illness, we had to act quickly to decide on an alternate program. We reached out to our close friends and colleagues in the Edmonton music community, and we were not surprised in the least when we received many excellent ideas, options, and offers of help to put together an exceptional program of music on short notice. That's the beauty of our tight-knit community—we are here to support one another when needed, and to express the joy of music even when circumstances are difficult. This concert is the result of that support and cooperation.

Lidia Khaner, previously the Principal Oboe for your ESO, will conduct the program. Retiring ESO violinist Tatiana Warszynski will perform a solo, Inside the Stone. Clayton Leung, ESO viola, will also be featured as a soloist on Pēteris Vasks' piece, Concerto for Viola and String Orchestra. Completing the program is Valentin Silvestrov's beautiful Hymn – 2001. This delightful and intimate concert will be hosted by another familiar face, former ESO Composer in Residence John Estacio, a JUNO Award-winning composer and member of the Order of Canada.

Program to include:

VALENTIN SILVESTROV Hymn – 2001 (2001)
VERONIKA KRAUSAS Inside the Stone (1997)
PĒTERIS VASKS Concerto for Viola and String Orchestra (2016)

Program subject to change.

This concert will not include an intermission.
