Brahms Symphony No. 4

Conducted by Alexander Prior
CANCELLED | May 23, 2020 8:00 PM

Works by Russian composers bookend a program that features Canadian piano virtuoso Marc-André Hamelin, who makes a welcome return to the ESO playing Nicolai Medtner’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Pioneering Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina’s 1971 work Concordanza was written for a 10-piece ensemble and explores the ideas of contrast and concord co-existing. Rounding out the program is Brahms’ powerful and heartfelt final symphony conducted by ESO Chief Conductor Alexander Prior.
