Connected with the Health and Life Skills and Fine Arts curricula for Division 2, these programs are led by an expressive arts therapist and feature both in-class art activities and visits to an ESO rehearsal at the Winspear Centre.
Upon booking, you’ll select one of the following two options for a program focus:
Communication through the Arts
With the orchestra as a model, students will explore self-expression and communication through the arts. Students will create abstract drawings with oil pastels, examining the difference between free expression and clear communication in two school-based sessions led by an expressive arts therapist. Then your class will sit in on an ESO rehearsal to observe and reflect upon how the musicians work together to share musical ideas with the audience.
Managing Difficult Emotions
We can all struggle with negative feelings when working towards a goal. Students will learn from stories of ESO musicians overcoming disappointment and discouragement to keep pursuing their dreams, and will come up with strategies and resources for times when they feel down. In two school-based sessions led by an expressive artist therapist, and a visit to an ESO rehearsal, students will hear stories of how musicians overcome challenges, will reflect on their own goals and struggles, and will learn how to take care of themselves and keep following their dreams.
Cost: $550 * . Includes 2 hour-long in-class art activity visits + 1 hour-long visit to the Winspear Centre.
Maximum 30 children per group.
Additional travel fees of $1.00/km are charged for each classroom visit that occurs beyond 25 km from the Winspear Centre.
